Delta Flight DL136 Detroit-Amsterdam Makes Emergency Landing in New York: Spoiled Food

Earlier this week, Delta Air Lines flight DL136 from Detroit to Amsterdam made an emergency landing into New York following spoiled food causing sickness.

Delta Air Lines Flight DL136 – Detroit to Amsterdam: New York Spoiled Food Diversion…

Delta Air Lines flight DL136, which was involved in the spoiled food incident in New York, is a routine scheduled flight between Detroit & Amsterdam.

Also, the aircraft involved in the incident was N816NW.

As per data from Planespotters.net, N816NW is a 17.3 year old Airbus A330-300 that started out life with Northwest Airlines in April 2007.

Following the merger with Delta Air Lines, it was handed over to the DL register in October 2008.

Furthermore, of the A330-300 variant, DL have 31 of them in their fleet, with an average fleet age of 15.5 years.

Within the 31, all of them are in active service. As well as the A330-300 variant, the mainline DL fleet has:

Delta Air Lines flight DL136 departed Detroit at 2304 local time on July 2 and initially tracked north-east towards Amsterdam.

Over the Gander area, the aircraft made a u-turn and headed towards New York JFK.

Following the u-turn, the aircraft landed safely into JFK at 0402 local time on July 3.

As per The Aviation Herald, it is understood that spoiled food was served to passengers, making several of them sick.

Furthermore, this was the reason an emergency landing from Delta Air Lines flight DL136 was needed as a result.

FAA Aware of the Incident: Airline Apologies…

In a statement, the FAA said the following on the incident, with no indication into whether this will be investigated by them:

“Delta Air Lines Flight 136 landed safely at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York around 4 a.m. local time on Wednesday July 3, after the crew reported several sick passengers on board.”

“The Airbus A330 departed Detroit Metropolitan Airport and was headed to Amsterdam, Netherlands.”

Furthermore, it is understood that the carrier has apologised to passengers onboard the flight for this.

They stated that this is not the service that the airline is known for, and aims to learn from this ordeal.

Overall, with the remainder of the flight being cancelled as a result, this has prompted disruption on the perspective of the passengers.
