The Galactic War rages on in Helldivers 2 as Super Earth is fighting a never-ending battle against the Automatons and Terminids. As soon as the SEAF gets the upper hand on one faction, their attention needs to be diverted to the other. This will only continue to get worse when new factions make their presence known and threaten democracy. With so many planets still unexplored, only time will tell as to what threat lurks in the background that we’re currently unaware of.

U/OreganoCrackYT took to Reddit to share an interesting concept for a new fourth faction that could come to Helldivers 2 following the release of The Illuminate. This new faction will be an army of traitors that have defected from the SEAF and gone rogue, operating on previously unexplored planets to try and survive and stay hidden from the Helldivers.

These enemies look to be using the same equipment as players and it would be interesting to see how Arrowhead Game Studios could program the enemies based on player movement and the strategies they would use to fight back against the Helldivers. This idea would be a breath of fresh air and a great contrast to the Automatons, Terminids, and eventually Illuminate, and many other players seem to agree too.

U/Kumanda_Ordo took to the replies to share some interesting ideas on how this concept could work in practice, and it makes me hope that Arrowhead Game Studios will create this faction in the future.

“They should be a predominately ranged faction and have some armored stuff, so similar to bots in some respects. But one of the main things to set them apart would be that they behave in ways that attempt to preserve their lives more. They aren’t soulless machines who are ready to rush into our positions. They want to win, but they want to live to see that victory.”

This is a great idea and adds a layer of realism to the faction rather than them just being mindless killing machines like the Automatons. They continue to dive into this by detailing how the traitor faction could operate,

“So they would use cover, retreat, maybe even try to heal. A medic unit? Probably have a portable mortar team, so they can attack from cover. Maybe a unit that deploys a couple of portable barricades to make on-demand fortifications. They could use a shield generator emplacement, and the backpack version as well.”

Based on the size of the planet and the amount that is still unexplored, there will likely be 4-6 different factions to fight against throughout the game’s lifecycle, so seeing a group of traitors would be an interesting take, as well as an unexpected one. Although it will be a long time before we know about the fourth faction, we do know that The Illuminate will be coming to the game soon.
