King Charles could seek ‘alternative cancer treatment’, expert says

King Charles may refuse chemotherapy as part of his cancer treatment as “he’s always argued against it”, a royal expert has claimed.

Speaking to Nigel Farage on GB News yesterday, former BBC journalist Tom Bower revealed he would be surprised if the King underwent traditional methods of treatment.

The discussion came after Buckingham Palace announced the King had been diagnosed with a “form of cancer”.

This followed reports he had visited The London Clinic for treatment for an enlarged prostate last week.

Mr Bower said: “I’m speculating but the King is a promoter of alternative medicine.

“He would not be one for chemotherapy. He’s always argued against it.

“He’s a great believer in natural herbs and potions and things like that.”

Mr Bower said the King would be following recommendations from Doctor Michael Dixon, chair of the College of Medicine and head of the Royal Medical Household.

He continued: “So my guess is that at the moment he’s taking advice from a man called Michael Dixon, who he’s championed for many years, who has headed his own – the King’s – natural alternative medicinal institute, discredited by many people but the King is a great believer in it.”

In 2019, King Charles was actually named Royal Patron of the Faculty of Homeopathy, an organisation of healthcare practitioners who also practise the pseudoscientific form of medicine.

“Last night I was very surprised that people kept on saying that he’s going to have chemotherapy or radiation and the rest of it,” Mr Bower said.

However, he added: “One just hopes he recovers pretty speedily.

“I’m just worried the alternative medicine won’t provide the cure which conventional medicine would do.”

Amid the announcement of the King’s illness, the Palace also said he would begin “regular treatments” on Monday.

In a statement the Palace said the 75-year-old, “remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible”.

The King will step back from public duties while treatment is ongoing.

It is not yet known what type of cancer he was diagnosed with.
