Summer is always a great time for horror games, and the Still Wakes the Deep release date should give you plenty of hope for a scary time. Developed by the Chinese Room, you might recognise this name as the studio behind Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, Dear Esther, and Amnesia: a Machine for Pigs. This first-person horror is set on an oil rig, and some unknown madness awaits us.

When will Still Wakes the Deep be released?

The Still Wakes the Deep release date is set for Tuesday, 18 June, 2024. This release date has been confirmed thanks to the game’s Steam listing. As for when the game will be playable on this day, we will have to wait for confirmation from Steam or the developers. Typically, new games on Steam go live around 4pm in the UK, but it varies and could happen in the morning.

Still Wakes the Deep gameplay details

Still Wakes the Deep is a first-person horror game, following the story of an off-shore rig worker. What we’ve seen so far from trailers and images looks to be a stormy, weather-beaten horror that oozes a Lovecraftian atmosphere. After all lines of communication to the outside world are severed, you have to survive a storm and the isolation of an oil rig standing in the dark, freezing waters of the North Sea. If freezing to death isn’t bad enough, some unknown horror has come aboard the rig, and you need to find a way out.

There will be crew members to encounter and save, all the while you are fighting for survival. Run, climb, and swim through the flooding corridors as you face an unknown foe. As expected from the developers of Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, you won’t have any weapons to speak of, and you have to use your wits to keep yourself alive. The unknown aspect of the monster or evil onboard the rig seems like it will scratch a specific type of horror itch, one that is seldom executed well.

Still Wakes the Deep platforms

Still Wakes the Deep will be available on Windows PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S when it launches, it will also be available on Xbox Game Pass on release. You can pre-order it now on consoles, but the Steam page currently lets you wishlist the game.
