The last couple of years have seen demand for retro handhelds sky rocket. If you scroll through Amazon for a little while, you’re probably going to see hundreds of retro handheld systems that can be pretty hard to differentiate. There’s plenty of cheap, poorly built devices that are probably built just to get a product into people’s hands, rather than a quality system that’s going to last years. Luckily, I’ve been collecting these little things for a long time, so I’ll be able to point you in the direction of ones worth your time.
There’s a bunch of different handhelds out there on different marketplaces. You’re going to want to avoid any that are labelled as shipping with “1,000+ games” as in many cases the ROMS could be sourced illegitimately.
So far, the Retroid Pocket 3 Plus is the standout deal for retro handhelds
Amidst cheap knockoffs and poorly designed imitations, there’s a few that are worth keeping your eye on. The Retroid Pocket 3 Plus, for one, alongside the RUIXIAO RG351P are totally worth picking up this Cyber Monday.

Best Cyber Monday deals 2023
Personally, I prefer a split-controller design (think PSP and Game Boy Advance.) The Retroid Pocket 3 Plus and Anbernic RG351P are your best options for this.
We were interested to see Black Friday deals on newer products such as the Super Pocket, a nifty little handheld with licensed cartridges, though it looks like we might be waiting a little longer for those yet.
There’s also the Logitech G Cloud which is currently discounted by $50 at the moment. While it’s much pricier than other retro handhelds we’ve name-dropped today, there’s a lot more you can do with the console. It features cloud streaming and has a brilliant 7-inch 1080p resolution screen that’s going to make the rest look pretty bog standard. If you’re seeking a cheaper option, grab the Backbone One and put your phone in the middle for a very versatile retro gaming experience.
There’s also plenty of options in the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go, though calling them “retro” handhelds might be a little stretch. We’ve also been on the lookout for Cyber Monday Nintendo Switch deals, and while we’ve found a few – there aren’t that many discounts at all.
