Waitrose has issued a recall for its Chocolate Mini Cupcakes due to an undeclared allergen. The supermarket chain is urging customers not to consume the product as it contains walnuts, which are not mentioned on the label.

This error occurred due to a packaging mix-up where some packs contain Coffee and Walnut Cupcakes instead of the chocolate variety. This poses a potential health risk for anyone with a walnut allergy.

The details of the recalled product are as follows:.

Waitrose Chocolate Mini Cupcakes.

Customers who have purchased this product are being advised to return it to the store for a full refund. Waitrose has also contacted relevant allergy support organisations to inform their members about the recall, reports Birmingham Live.

In-store notices have been put up explaining the reason for the recall and advising customers on what to do if they have bought the product.

If you have bought the product and have a walnut allergy, do not eat it. Return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

For more information, contact Waitrose Customer Care on 0800 188 884, Option 4.

On occasion, a food product may present an issue that renders it unfit for sale. In such cases, the product may be ‘withdrawn’ (removed from shelves) or ‘recalled’ (customers are requested to return the product).

Foods may need to be withdrawn or recalled if they pose a risk to consumers due to missing or incorrect allergy labelling, or any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.
