An American Airlines Boeing 737-800 has caught fire at Denver International Airport earlier today.
American Airlines flight AA1006, operated by a Boeing 737-800 registered N885NN, was conducting a scheduled service from Colorado Springs to Dallas Forth Worth International Airport (DFW).
Shortly after departure from Colorado Springs Municipal Airport (COS) the aircraft discontinued the climb and diverted to Denver International Airport (DEN).

Specifics of the problem culminating in the ground fire are not yet known, and we will provide updates as they come to hand.
Flight data shows that flight AA1006 had made an on-time departure from Colorado Springs at 16:37 local time on 13 March. The flight had departed normally, before flight crew terminated the climb at flight level FL160. The flight had been airborne for approximately 20 minutes.
A backtrack and diversion was then carried out to Denver International Airport.
It is understood that the operating crew directed an emergency disembarkation of passengers via over wing exits at Denver International. There are no reports of injuries at the time of writing.
Further video footage surfacing on social media shows the extent of the fire. The aircraft is a Boeing 737-800 registered N885NN. This is a 13.1 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier American Airlines. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in February 2012.
Additional video footage surfacing on social media shows the fire centered around the aircraft’s number 2 (right-hand) engine. Flight crew reported advised of engine vibrations during the flight.
