The era of Warzone DMZ has reached a premature end after Activision released a recent statement announcing that the divisive extraction mode will no longer be receiving updates in MW3. With the latest series entry’s Zombies mode boasting a similar (and arguably more enjoyable) experience, the CoD publisher has predictably decided to move on for the time being, though it will still be playable “via the Call of Duty: Warzone section of CoD HQ.”

Once the MW3 Season 1 start date kicks off, DMZ will no longer interact directly “with Modern Warfare III or Call of Duty: Warzone, which means that progression and any new Modern Warfare III or Warzone content, including Battle Pass or store bundles, will not sync or carry back into this DMZ mode.” Progress will also no longer apply towards battle passes in the first season, so while you can still play it, you won’t be able to advance through the various sectors within the seasonal microtransaction after finishing a run.

Fortunately, if you’re a hardcore fan of the classic extraction mode, Activision has promised to keep “a variety of content available, which includes all the missions and locales introduced throughout the course of 2022’s MW2 entry. Of course, this doesn’t mean DMZ is being put out to pasture permanently, as Infinity Ward, along with the rest of the mode’s development teams, could eventually pick up where they left off in a future installment.

For now, though, you will have to make do with the content that’s available in DMZ, as it’s currently unclear when, or even if, Infinity Ward will be making changes to the extraction mode moving forward.
